Express Entry is the online system that the Canadian Government uses to streamline the application process for certain prospective economic immigrants applying for permanent residence through the Canadian Experience Classes, the Federal Skilled Workers Class, and the Federal Skilled Trades Class.
Upon completing your Express Entry Profile you will be given a comprehensive ranking score. This score is based on a number of factors including your age, education and ability in English and/or French amongst other factors. Based on this score, you may be issued an Invitation to Apply, at which point you will have up to 60 days to complete your application for Permanent Residence.
Beyond Express Entry, Canada also offers other routes to economic immigration through Provincial Nominee Programs, Self-Employed Individuals, Caregivers and Rural & Northern Immigration Pilot.
Family Reunification allows Canadian citizens or permanent residents to sponsor their family members to come to Canada. Sponsored family members can live, study, and work in Canada if they become permanent residents. These include spouses, partners, dependant children, parents, or grandparents. Understanding eligibility requirements, and how family members are invited to apply and the complete application process can be challenging and competitive.
If you are already in Canada and would suffer excessive hardship if you are returned back to your home country, you may be eligible to apply for permanent residence on Humanitarian and Compassionate grounds. This is typically reserved for people with exceptional circumstances who would not normally be eligible to apply for permanent residence under economic or family reunification classes and are considered on a case-by-case basis.
In some exceptional circumstances, individuals outside Canada can also apply for permanent residence based on humanitarian and compassionate considerations
